Last week I purchased the 2016 edition of Hafner's lexicon of the Maria Theresa taler.

I immediately noticed a severe error. The taler depicted as H71 (Rome) is definitely NOT Rome. Conversely the Taler depicted as H58 has been, for sure, minted using the Rome die.

There are many details that can be used to discover a Rome die and they can be clearly see in the H58 image.

In the following images coming from the Rome mint museum of the Rome first specimen, I am also going to post a brief image depicting how to spot a genuine Rome die:

Thank You! I didn't even know there being a new edition. :oops:

I guess looking for the lines of a broken die is the easiest method to find a MTT minted at Rome. ;)
