To help with the identification of this coin I suppose I should mention it's silver. |

It looks like a "Wiener Pfennig" from the late 12th or early 13th century. That's all I could say for now. I'm in Caribian now and my books did stay back home in Austria. When I'm back home hopefully I could tell you more about your penny. Regards hexaeder |

Thank you hexaeder! Good plan, no books on vacation in the Carribean. Enjoy! |

Vergleiche dazu Fund von Fraham 2.2 I think this is a Viennese Pfennig, minted in Krems under Leopold V. (1177 - 1194). See Fund of Fraham 2.2 (Literatur: Numismatische Zeitschrift 118. Band 2011) OTAKAR |

Still can't seem to find another example of this coin online? Have you seen one of these anywhere? Thanks! |

It may be a not yet edited coin. I could not find that coin in CNA 1. Whether it is attributable to the Viennese Pfennigs, I can not say. It bears a distant resemblance to the B 26 from Krems. B 76 or B 79 from the Mint Enns are also somehow similar. But the coin can just as well be from Bavaria, Bohemia or Moravia. Unfortunately I miss that literature. In order to make this piece a coveted and rare coin, it would first have to be assigned by a medieval numismatist.

Jetonicus
