Parma’s tiny silver 5-soldi of 1815, smallest member of Parma’s new coin series that year, and a reflection of the city’s new political arrangement following the Congress of Vienna. With its somewhat irregular “5,” this may well be what Krause lists as the 1815/3 overdate, but I cannot say that for sure.

Duchess Maria Luigi is pictured—her excellent portrait is likely the reason I bought this coin—and her monogram dominates the coin’s reverse. When this little silver coin was struck, Duchess Maria Luigi (Marie-Louise) was then still the second wife of Napoleon I, and the mother of historical footnote Napoleon II.
