Teresa Caferelli had been a young Italian girl when she immigrated to the United States, and was a young woman of 21, and newly married to DeFrancisci when he designed the Peace dollar using her as a model. Her Italian heritage is the connection here, of course....

Thanks for these two pictures. The second one especially, of her much later in life, commands a very long look. (I notice it's attributed to 1971, the year the Eisenhower dollar--first dollar coin since the Peace dollar had departed in '35--was introduced.) Again, thanks for the picture. Really gave me pause. v.
