It was found by a guy who was searching bank rolls for silver half dollars. He said that when he emptied the rolls of halves onto the table, he heard one of the coins "thud" instead of "ring." He tested the individual coins until he found this offender.

I was yakking with my Italian friends and remembered this thread. Thought this was a good-looking coin, from an out-of-the-ordinary year in the “Pyramid” series.

Production of the 20-centavo coin stopped after the 1946 issue, and did not resume until 1951. Here’s a 1951 I found among my duplicates. I was surprised by its high catalog value in grades like this—evidence that there was a real need for these coins by ’51.

No sitting around in bank vaults for these guys…most all of them went straight to work.
